Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday led the nation in paying homage to Dr Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, on his 141st birth anniversary. The Prime Minister underscored Dr Prasad’s immense contributions, from his role in the freedom struggle to his exemplary service as the country’s first head of state.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi posted, “Tributes to Dr Rajendra Prasad Ji on his birth anniversary. From being an active participant in India’s freedom struggle, presiding over the Constituent Assembly to becoming our first President, he served our nation with unmatched dignity, dedication, and clarity of purpose.”

PM Modi further praised Dr Prasad’s vision and service, concluding, “His long years in public life were marked by simplicity, courage, and devotion to national unity. His exemplary service and vision continue to inspire generations.” END

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tributes to India’s first president and highlighted the late leader’s significant contributions to the country’s freedom struggle and the monumental task of drafting the Constitution.

On handle X, Kharge posted, “Humble salutations to Dr Rajendra Prasad Ji, the great freedom fighter, former Congress President, and the first President of the country, who made significant contributions to the making of India’s Constitution.”

Kharge further praised Dr Prasad’s selfless service and glorious contributions, stating, “From the making of the Constitution to laying the foundation of a strong and progressive India—his selfless service and glorious contributions will always be remembered. His ideals, his simplicity, and his lofty thoughts will forever remain a source of inspiration for all of us.”

A stalwart of Indian politics, Dr Rajendra Prasad played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s Constitution and guiding the nation during its formative years (January 26, 1950, to May 13, 1962). He is consistently remembered for his simplicity, humility, and unwavering commitment to national unity.

A close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Rajendra Prasad played a pivotal role in independent India, serving as the first president from 1950 to 1962. For his enduring service, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1962.
